Boy Scout Troop 492, Renton WA

Beginning the "Three Peak Challenge"
June - 2012
Welcome to Troop 492!
About us:
Troop 492 last year celebrated its 5th Anniversary as we were chartered in the spring of 2007. We belong to the Green River District of the Chief Seattle Council. We meet on Thursday evenings at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in the Renton Highlands (3604 NE 10th CT.). Regular Troop meetings are held from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. Our meetings are planned and run by the scouts and usually involve working on scout skills, rank advancement, leadership training and having fun! Our Troop is open to any boy who meets the requirements of admission to the Boy Scouts of America program. If you would like more information about our troop, visit our contact page and send us a note!
Activities:
In addition to our regular troop meetings, Troop 492 participates in at least one outdoor activity each month, including hiking, camping, biking, etc. These activities are planned and organized by the scouts.
Every fall our Troop holds an annual planning meeting where we try and schedule our upcoming activities for the coming year. In addition to our Troop camping and hiking outings, we also participate in council sponsored events, including Klondike (snow games!), Winter Camp and Summer Camp to name a few.
Upcoming Events: We have a full summer of events planned so check the calendar. We are looking at Camping / Backpacking June 21 - 23; Hiking July 6; Backpacking July 10 - 14; Summer Camp at Hahobos July 21 - 27; Fundraiser Aug 3; Backpacking Aug 5 - 10. We need adult campers and drivers please.
Fundraising Opportunities: For those looking to help support our troop, take a look at our Fundraiser / Support Page. There you will find a link to Trails End Popcorn Internet sales, where you can order your favorite Trails End treats all year round, and support our troop in the process. Also coming up on August 3rd, we will be partnering with CashAmerica Pawn during their Tent Sale, to sell food concessions. Drop by and support our troop while looking for a great bargain as well! CashAmerica is located at the corner of Petrovitsky and SE 108th Ave in Renton.
Recent News: Three Peak Challenge: On Saturday June 08 we held our second annual Three Peak Challenge! A brave cast of 11 people started out from High Point Trail head at 7:15 AM. The weather was perfect for a long hike, a little overcast, no rain, and not to hot. After scaling the top of West Tiger 1, we headed across Central Peak on Squak, and then over to Wilderness Peak on Cougar Mtn. We ended our day around 6:30 PM at the Red Town Trail head. Check out the pictures just added in the Photo tab!
Congratulations to Griffin!: On Thursday Feb 28th, Griffin had his Eagle Scout Board of Review. As one of the original charter members back in 2007, Griffin has become our first Eagle Scout. I remember trying to finish up the paperwork right before Griffin's birthday, sitting in Paul's truck doing a scoutmaster conference, while we were trying to chase down Jason and Cody at the movies, who had the rest of the paperwork in the back of my car!
Calendar: Okay I think I've got the thing updated (at least as of today!). If you click on the Calendar of Events tab you should be able to download a new excel spreadsheet of the current calendar that was discussed at our November Parent / Committee meeting. As always things are subject to change, but most of the dates should be good.
Parent / Adult involvement:
Once a month (usually the third Thursday of the month) we have a parent/committee meeting during the same time as the troop meeting. Here the parents and troop committee get together and discuss how to best support our scouts. The many activities, outings and events are only made possible by the active involvement of many adult parents, leaders, and volunteers!.
